Standards
The real estate industry has established a group whose mission is to standardize the interfaces among the various
participants in the real estate transaction. This group, part of the
Real Estate Industry Providers Association (REIPA) is, called
AARTT, which stands for Alliance for Advanced Real Estate Transaction Technology.
Because GURUnet is firmly dedicated to delivering Industry Standard products, our CTO, Paul Hill serves on the Executive
Committee, and is also chair of the Technology Workgroup at AARTT.
All interfaces to vendors in GURUnet products are implemented using AARTT approved standards where they exist. These
standards include RETS, a standard for interfacing to and between MLS systems. RETS was first incorporated in the GURU
Broker NETwork, the first generation of the product, in 1998.
The latest GURUnet products, such as g4DirectTM
and g4EnterpriseTM
are implemented using industry standards, JAVA and JSP, and are built on a multi-tier design which isolates the autonomous
database servers from any physical or logical direct web connection. These are connected to an isolated LAN using specially
selected protocols and addressing structures to provide intrusion protection. In addition, no ports are opened on the web
servers that face the Internet except those directly related to web page operation.
All software updating and system maintenance are performed from the isolated LAN used by the databases. This isolation of
the database is designed to ensure the protection of all customer and broker data relating to transactions. It also protects
the broker's personnel, financial and other private or proprietary business data.
